Everything you need to know about the Progressive Longevity Program — a Specialist Sport & Exercise Medicine physician-led approach to healthspan, prevention and long-term performance.

01

How the Program Works

The Progressive Longevity Program is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine physician-led service designed to help patients measure, understand and improve their long-term health.

Our approach brings together metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, body composition, musculoskeletal health, fitness, strength, nutrition and lifestyle factors into one integrated medical framework.

Many longevity and preventive health services focus heavily on blood tests or screening. Our point of difference is that we also assess the physical and musculoskeletal factors that often determine whether a patient can actually implement an exercise and lifestyle plan safely and sustainably.

The program does not replace your General Practitioner or other treating clinicians. Your GP remains central to your general medical care. Our role is to provide specialist assessment, interpretation and targeted recommendations, and to work collaboratively with your GP and other health professionals where appropriate.

The program is suitable for adults who want a structured, evidence-based approach to improving long-term health, physical function and disease prevention.

It may be appropriate for people who are interested in:

  • improving metabolic health and body composition
  • reducing future cardiovascular and chronic disease risk
  • understanding their fitness, strength and physical capacity
  • improving health through exercise, nutrition and lifestyle change
  • navigating menopause-related changes in body composition, strength or health risk
  • returning to exercise after injury, illness or a long period of inactivity
  • identifying barriers that are limiting healthy ageing or performance

You do not need to be an athlete or currently exercising. Many patients attend because they want a clearer understanding of where they are now and what they should prioritise next.

No.

Weight and body composition may be part of the discussion, but the program is not simply a weight-loss clinic.

Our focus is healthspan: helping patients improve the number of years they live with good health, physical function and independence. This includes metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, muscle mass, bone health, strength, fitness, nutrition, sleep, recovery and musculoskeletal function.

For some patients, weight loss may be an important goal. For others, the priorities may be building muscle, improving fitness, preserving bone density, reducing future disease risk, or returning to safe and sustainable exercise.

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools for improving long-term health, but many patients have barriers that make exercise difficult to implement.

These may include osteoarthritis, tendon pain, previous injuries, back pain, reduced mobility, low muscle mass, fear of injury, poor confidence with training, or uncertainty about what is safe.

As Sport and Exercise Medicine physicians, we assess both medical risk and physical capacity. This allows us to integrate metabolic and cardiovascular prevention with musculoskeletal health, movement limitations, injury history and exercise planning.

This is particularly important because knowing what to do is only part of the solution. Patients also need a plan they can realistically follow.

Bookings and First Steps

All new patients start by completing the Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment Form.

This form helps our clinical team understand your goals, medical background, current concerns and whether this service is likely to be appropriate for your needs.

Due to the length and complexity of these appointments, longevity consultations are booked via reception rather than online. This helps ensure the correct appointment is scheduled and that important details are not missed.

The Progressive Longevity service is designed for patients seeking a comprehensive, physician-led approach to long-term health optimisation.

The assessment form allows us to:

  • understand your main goals before the appointment
  • identify relevant medical issues, risk factors or limitations
  • determine whether the service is likely to suit your needs
  • ensure the correct appointment type and preparation are arranged
  • avoid unnecessary appointments where another clinician or service may be more appropriate

Completing the form does not automatically mean that the program is suitable for every patient. If the service is not the right fit, our team will let you know and, where possible, suggest an alternative pathway.

A GP referral is recommended for specialist medical consultations, as this may allow a Medicare rebate to apply.

You may still attend without a referral, however the consultation will be privately billed and a Medicare rebate will not apply.

The first step is a Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment with a Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine physician.

This is a comprehensive 60-minute consultation that includes DEXA body composition assessment as part of the initial physician-led review.

The assessment is designed to establish your baseline, identify your key priorities and create a personalised roadmap for improving long-term health.

Your initial assessment may include:

  • review of your medical history, medications and previous investigations
  • discussion of your health goals and priorities
  • DEXA body composition assessment
  • review of metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors
  • assessment of physical activity, fitness and exercise history
  • musculoskeletal health review, including injuries, pain, osteoarthritis, tendon issues or movement limitations
  • discussion of sleep, nutrition, recovery and lifestyle factors
  • identification of barriers limiting progress
  • recommendations for further testing, allied health input or follow-up where appropriate
  • a personalised plan outlining your next steps

The consultation is designed to be valuable as a standalone specialist assessment, while also helping determine whether the broader Progressive Longevity Program is appropriate for you.

Yes, where they are relevant to your long-term health, exercise capacity or ability to implement a plan.

Musculoskeletal health is a key part of our approach. Joint pain, tendon problems, previous injuries, reduced strength, mobility limitations and osteoarthritis can all affect a person's ability to exercise safely and consistently.

The aim is not to replace a separate detailed assessment for every individual injury, but to understand how your musculoskeletal health affects your broader healthspan and exercise plan. If a specific issue requires more detailed investigation or treatment, a separate appointment or referral may be recommended.

03

The Broader Program

After the initial Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment, your specialist will discuss the most appropriate next steps.

Some patients may only need a clear plan, selected blood tests and periodic review.

Others may benefit from a more comprehensive program involving exercise physiology, VO₂ max testing, strength testing, dietetics, continuous glucose monitoring and app-supported follow-up.

The goal is not to sell every patient the same package. The goal is to recommend the level of support that best matches your goals, risks and readiness to engage.

For patients who choose to engage in the broader program, the assessment phase may include:

  • Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine physician consultation
  • DEXA body composition assessment
  • blood test review and risk-factor interpretation
  • exercise physiology assessment
  • VO₂ max or cardiopulmonary fitness testing where appropriate
  • strength and functional testing
  • personalised exercise prescription
  • dietitian consultation and review
  • continuous glucose monitoring where clinically useful
  • follow-up planning and review
  • access to the Progressive Longevity app for 12 months

This pathway is designed to move beyond advice alone and provide a practical structure for implementation, measurement and accountability.

No.

The initial Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment can be undertaken as a standalone specialist assessment.

However, some patients achieve better outcomes when they engage in the broader multidisciplinary pathway, particularly where there are multiple goals across body composition, fitness, strength, nutrition, cardiovascular risk and long-term behaviour change.

Your specialist will discuss whether the broader program is likely to add value in your situation.

Many patients already know they should exercise more, eat differently, lose fat, build muscle or reduce health risk. The challenge is often implementation.

The broader program provides:

  • objective baseline testing
  • clear priorities
  • exercise and nutrition support
  • structured follow-up
  • accountability
  • coordinated interpretation of results
  • a central place to view your plan and health data

This helps turn information into an actionable plan.

Patients who choose to engage in the broader Progressive Longevity Program can register for the Progressive Longevity app.

The app helps place key information in one location, including:

  • action plans
  • blood test results and trends
  • DEXA and body composition information
  • health scores and risk summaries
  • clinician recommendations
  • key priorities and follow-up steps

App access is included for 12 months for patients participating in the broader program.

The app is designed to support understanding, organisation and follow-through. It does not replace clinical review, and access is limited to clinicians directly involved in your care.

Services, Testing and Safety

Depending on your goals and clinical assessment, testing may include:

  • blood tests
  • DEXA body composition assessment
  • bone density assessment where clinically relevant
  • VO₂ max or cardiopulmonary fitness testing
  • strength and functional testing
  • movement or musculoskeletal assessment
  • continuous glucose monitoring
  • wearable-based data where appropriate
  • selected imaging or specialist investigations where clinically indicated

All testing is interpreted within a medical framework. Testing is not ordered simply for the sake of collecting data.

Yes.

DEXA scanning uses very low-dose X-ray radiation. The exposure from a body composition DEXA scan is very low and is generally considered safe when used appropriately.

Please let our team know if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

That is completely acceptable. Safety always comes first.

VO₂ max or cardiopulmonary fitness testing is not mandatory for every patient. If joint pain, injury, medical history or confidence limits maximal testing, the assessment can be modified. Alternatives may include cycling-based testing, walking protocols, sub-maximal testing or a staged approach after further medical review.

Some services may be available individually where clinically appropriate, such as DEXA, exercise physiology, dietetics or VO₂ max testing.

However, the Progressive Longevity service itself is designed around integrated specialist oversight and coordinated follow-up. Patients seeking a comprehensive healthspan assessment should begin with the Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment.

A Medicare rebate may apply to the specialist consultation component if you have a valid GP referral. Full fee and rebate information is available on our Fees & Policies page.

The broader assessment and implementation pathway is estimated ~$2,600 during the initial phase, depending on the services required.

This may include physician review, DEXA, exercise physiology, VO₂ max testing, strength testing, dietitian input, continuous glucose monitoring and 12 months of access to the Progressive Longevity app.

Your specialist will explain the recommended pathway after your initial assessment. The broader program is intended for patients who want structured multidisciplinary input and are ready to invest time, effort and resources into improving long-term health.

For a full breakdown of fees by service, visit our Fees & Policies page.

The program is not simply a single appointment or a set of tests.

It combines specialist physician assessment, objective measurement, exercise physiology, nutrition input, interpretation, planning and follow-up. The aim is to provide a coordinated roadmap rather than fragmented advice from multiple providers.

The value of the program lies in the integration: understanding your health risks, identifying the limiting factors, and creating a practical plan that can be implemented safely.

This is a private specialist clinic.

Specialist medical consultations and most standard blood tests may attract a Medicare rebate if you have a valid GP referral.

Medicare rebates do not usually apply to private body composition DEXA scans, VO₂ max testing, strength testing, exercise physiology or dietetics.

Some private health funds may offer rebates for exercise physiology or dietetics, depending on your level of cover.

See our Fees & Policies page for current rebate information.

There may be additional costs if further investigations or external specialist referrals are clinically recommended.

Examples may include advanced blood tests, coronary calcium scoring, CT coronary angiography, whole-body MRI, liquid biopsy testing, or referral to other medical specialists such as Cardiology or Endocrinology.

These are not routine for every patient. Any additional investigations will be discussed with you in advance.

06

Scope, Expectations and Suitability

No.

This is a specialist medical service, not a GP clinic or concierge medicine program.

Your GP remains central to your general healthcare, preventive screening, immunisations, medication continuity and management of unrelated medical issues.

Our role is to provide specialist assessment, interpretation and targeted recommendations relating to long-term health, physical function, metabolic risk, exercise capacity and healthspan.

The program prioritises lifestyle, exercise, nutrition, sleep, body composition, fitness, strength and risk-factor management.

Where clinically appropriate, a specialist doctor may recommend medication, supplements or further medical treatment. This is determined case by case and is not the primary focus of the program.

The service is not designed for patients seeking quick fixes, unproven treatments or medication-only solutions.

The program is best suited to patients who:

  • want a comprehensive understanding of their health
  • are willing to make lifestyle changes
  • value objective measurement and follow-up
  • want to improve healthspan, function and future risk
  • are interested in exercise, nutrition and prevention
  • are ready to engage with a multidisciplinary team where recommended
  • understand that long-term health improvement requires active participation

Yes.

The program may not be the right fit for patients who are seeking:

  • a quick fix
  • a medication-only approach
  • isolated test ordering without follow-up
  • treatment for an unstable or urgent medical condition
  • cure of active cancer or terminal illness
  • management that would be better provided by a GP, endocrinologist, cardiologist, oncologist, psychiatrist or other specialist
  • advice without willingness to implement change

If we feel the service is unlikely to meet your needs, we will communicate this respectfully and, where possible, suggest a more appropriate pathway.

Not every service is right for every patient.

If, after reviewing your assessment form, we feel that Progressive Longevity is not the most appropriate option, we will let you know. This is not a judgement of your health goals. It simply means that another clinician, service or pathway may better match your current needs.

Where possible, we will suggest alternatives such as review with your GP, endocrinologist, cardiologist, psychologist, dietitian, exercise physiologist or another relevant specialist.

Follow-up and Ongoing Care

Your Progressive Longevity Medical Assessment Form will be reviewed by the clinical team.

If the service appears appropriate, our team will confirm your appointment and provide preparation instructions.

If further information is required, reception may contact you before confirming the booking.

If the service is not the right fit, we will let you know and suggest alternative options where appropriate.

Some follow-up components, such as dietitian review, exercise physiology review or specialist follow-up, may be delivered via telehealth where appropriate.

Initial assessments are generally conducted in person because DEXA, physical assessment and face-to-face clinical review provide important information.

Yes.

Partners are welcome to participate independently or at a similar time. Many patients find that shared health goals improve motivation and long-term consistency.

Each person still requires their own assessment, testing and recommendations.

You should expect a structured, evidence-based and personalised approach.

You should not expect instant results, miracle treatments or a generic plan.

The program is designed to help you understand your health, identify your priorities, and implement a plan that improves long-term function, risk and quality of life.

The best results usually occur when patients are ready to engage actively with the recommendations and use the information to make sustainable changes.
