Progressive Longevity Program - Frequently Asked Questions
How the Program works
What is the Progressive Longevity Program?
The Progressive Longevity Program is a specialist-led medical service designed to help patients measure, understand, and optimise their long-term health.
It provides a structured, physician-led roadmap across metabolic, cardiovascular, and physical health domains, combining Sport and Exercise Medicine expertise with advanced testing, exercise physiology, dietetics, and longitudinal review. The focus is on medical oversight, interpretation, and follow-up, rather than one-off testing or standalone wellness services.
Who is this program for?
This program is suitable for adults who want an evidence-based, structured approach to improving long-term health, physical function, and disease prevention.
You do not need to be an athlete or currently exercising. The program is appropriate for people at all stages, including those returning to exercise, managing chronic conditions, or seeking a clearer understanding of their health risks.
How does the program run over time?
Patients typically move through three phases:
Initial Assessment (approximately 0–6 weeks)
Specialist consultation, blood testing, and relevant assessments to establish baseline health risks and priorities. Allied health input may be introduced during this phase.
Implementation (approximately months 3–6)
Exercise and nutrition strategies are implemented, with ongoing coaching and support. Specialist review may occur if injuries or medical issues affect progress.
Longitudinal Review (around 6 and 12 months)
Repeat testing and refinement of the plan, with coordination back to your GP and other specialists where appropriate.
The exact structure is individualised.
Bookings & Appointments
How do I book?
Due to the complexity and length of these appointments, all longevity consultations are booked via reception rather than online.
This allows our team to ensure the correct appointment type is scheduled and that important medical details are not missed.
Do I need a GP referral?
A GP referral is recommended for specialist consultations, as this may allow a Medicare rebate to apply.
You may still attend without a referral, however the consultation will be privately billed.
What happens at the initial appointment?
Your initial appointment is with a Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine physician.
This consultation includes a comprehensive review of your medical history, lifestyle factors, physical activity, and health goals. Where clinically appropriate, further investigations or allied health input will be organised to form the foundation of your care plan.
Is this a one-off assessment or an ongoing program?
The Progressive Longevity Program is designed to provide ongoing care and review, not just a single assessment.
Some patients choose a one-off consultation or specific testing, while others continue with structured follow-up depending on their goals and clinical needs.
Services, Testing & Options
Can I access individual services without joining the full program?
Yes.
Services such as VO₂ max testing, DEXA scanning, exercise physiology, and dietetics can be accessed individually without participating in the full longevity program.
The longevity program itself is intended for patients who want integrated medical oversight and coordinated follow-up across multiple health domains.
What types of testing may be involved?
Depending on your assessment, testing may include:
Blood tests
Body composition assessment (DEXA)
Cardiopulmonary fitness testing (VO₂ max)
Metabolic or movement assessments
Wearable-based data (where appropriate)
All testing is ordered and interpreted within a medical framework.
Is the DEXA scan safe?
Yes.
DEXA scanning uses very low-dose X-ray radiation. The exposure is approximately equivalent to one to three hours of normal background radiation and is considered very safe when used appropriately.
What if I cannot do maximal exercise testing?
That is completely acceptable. Safety always comes first and you will be assessed to ensure your testing is suitable.
VO₂ testing can be modified or performed using sub-maximal protocols, cycling-based testing, or walking protocols if joint pain or medical considerations are present.
Costs, Rebates & Payment
How much does the Progressive Longevity Program cost?
Costs vary depending on the level of assessment and follow-up that is appropriate for you.
As a guide, options range from assessment-focused pathways through to comprehensive, year-long programs with structured allied health support and review.
Some patients choose to pay per consultation or service, while others prefer an all-inclusive program option after discussion with their specialist. Pricing is discussed after the initial assessment to ensure it aligns with individual needs.
Below is a visual guide showing typical cost ranges based on the level of assessment and follow-up required. These figures are estimates only.
We do not believe in lock-in subscriptions. Our role is to provide specialist assessment, medical oversight, and a clear plan that supports your long-term, independent health. Patients may choose individual services or a bundled approach depending on their needs. Additional costs may arise if further private investigations or specialist consultations are clinically indicated.
Examples may include advanced imaging (such as whole-body MRI, CT coronary angiography, or coronary calcium scoring) or referral to other medical specialists (e.g. Cardiology or Endocrinology). The value of such tests are discussed with you in advance and are not routine.
