Specialist Sport & Exercise Physician

Dr Matthew Morgan is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician and Fellow of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). He holds a broad interest in musculoskeletal and exercise-related conditions and is passionate about helping people of all ages maintain and regain their capacity for physical activity. His clinical expertise includes concussion management, ultrasound-guided interventions, and evidence-based rehabilitation for acute and chronic injuries.


Dr Morgan graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Notre Dame, Sydney, in 2013. Prior to his specialist training, he worked as an Orthopaedic Registrar in the NSW public hospital system and previously trained as a Physical Education teacher in Brisbane. He has completed a Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine through the University of Queensland and continues his academic interest in the field.


Matthew works extensively in elite sport and currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for the Sydney Roosters. He has also been the team doctor for the Rabbitohs’ junior pathways and has provided medical care to high-performance teams including the Indigenous All Stars (men’s and women’s), Samoan Rugby League, Australian Schoolboys, Junior Kangaroos, and the Prime Minister’s XIII Women’s team. His experience spans a wide range of sports including rugby league, surfing, beach volleyball, netball, tennis, motor racing, and endurance events.


Dr Morgan performs ultrasound-guided corticosteroid and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and shockwave therapy, tailored to each patient's goals and needs. He published research in the American Journal of Sports Medicine on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft survival in adolescents, under the supervision of Dr Leo Pinczewski.


Outside of medicine, Matthew enjoys triathlon, strength training, and spending time with his fiancée and their sons.
