Dr Ben Weber
Senior Sport & Exercise Medicine Registrar
Dr Ben Weber brings more than ten years of combined experience across Sport & Exercise Medicine and Orthopaedic surgery to Progressive Sports Medicine. He is currently the Head Doctor for the NSW Waratahs and team doctor for the NSW Swifts, and continues to assist in theatre with leading orthopaedic surgeons across Sydney.
About Dr Weber
Ben completed his medical degree with Honours at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Anatomy by Dissection from the University of New England. He is a Senior Sport & Exercise Medicine registrar with the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians, building on extensive prior experience as an orthopaedic registrar in the NSW public hospital system.
This dual background — meticulous surgical anatomy combined with contemporary sports medicine — informs a precise, evidence-based approach to every consultation.
Elite Team Medicine
Ben is the Head Doctor for the NSW Waratahs and the NSW Swifts. In 2024 he travelled with the highly successful Australian Swimming Team to the World Aquatic Championships in Doha.
Earlier roles include club doctor for the Sydney Swans and Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club, medical cover for several A-League football teams during the COVID-19 period, and expedition doctor on the Kokoda Track.
Surgical Experience
Ben continues to operate as a surgical assistant for several leading orthopaedic surgeons across Sydney. He previously held an orthopaedic registrar position within the NSW public hospital system.
This ongoing exposure to operative orthopaedics — particularly across knee, shoulder and spine pathology — means his non-operative recommendations are grounded in a clear understanding of when surgery is, and is not, the right answer.
Research & Publications
Ben has published research in the British Journal of Sports Medicine on managing AFL player mental health, and in the ANZ Journal of Surgery on lumbar spine fusion surgery. In 2019 he authored a feature article for Australian Doctor on the therapeutic benefits of exercise.
Patient Care & Approach
Ben sees patients and athletes of all ages, sporting interests and abilities — from elite professionals through to weekend recreational athletes and patients simply wanting to move better and stay active for longer.
Outside the clinic his own sporting interests are broad and varied, though he is most passionate about golf.
